A Real Kitchen Would Be Nice, But...

In this apartment
we don't have a real kitchen,
just a small kitchenette.
But at least it's easy to watch
him cook when sitting in the
living room. Which is actually half-a-kitchen
nowadays, as the kitchenette
is too small for all the necessities.
For example, our former
kitchen table is nowadays
a living room table and
our freezer and microwave
locate in the living room as well.

I guess these are the sacrifices
people always say you have to make
when you'd like to live near the city center
in the most expensive city of the country.

Fact of the Day

Everything looks prettier
when you add some fairy lights.
(Adding some curtains could help too.)

Nighttime Thoughts

There are some happy young people living below us.
I can hear them laughing plenty of times a day,
and they often sit on the balcony chatting in different languages.
It's many of them all the time, and I have no idea
who is really living here and who just visiting.
Not that I care anyway.

It sounds like they were having the summer of their life,
and that thought makes me happy.
It also makes me feel old somehow.
I miss those long long summer holidays from my childhood.

Well, I've had a long holiday this summer as well.
Mainly cause I just dropped everything I planned to get done
because I felt exhausted.
But I can't help that nasty feeling that comes
when you know you seriously should do
some work instead of just hanging around
and having fun. It differs from the childhood,
when the main thing was just to enjoy.

Laundry Day

I like doing laundry. It's my favourite of housework, cause it's so easy. I also love the smell of the clean clothes. Doing laundry is especially nice at summer, when you can dry it outside. I tried it today, cause it seemed to be warm and sunny. But then I turned my back and took a nap, and it of course started to rain. I was so annoyed.

Can you see the difference?

When I moved into this apartment
(09/2008),
my jewelry wall looked like this:

Nowadays
(04/2010)
it looks like this.

And I desperately need a third
earring-hanger,
as almost 30 pairs of earrings
are missing from the picture just because
they didn't fit.

No, this is not a problem.
This is just happy collecting.

Tea Break

I love tea and coffee cups. I drink no coffee (it tastes so bad) and I prefer my tea in mugs, but I still have over 20 pairs of coffee cups. Nowadays I only buy ones that really are special some way (at least for me) and usually trifted. I love going to flea markets and charity shops to see cute cups. I just try to avoid buying, as there's no space in our cupboards anymore.

In the first picture there's my new tea mug. Now I just need some raspberry tea to drink from it. In the second picture there's a pair of coffee cups I just somehow fell in love with. The ones in the last picture are meant for crafting. They are all uneven and some of them have cracks, but I still had to get those. So cute, no matter they're too small to be usable in a kitchen. Crafting is just such a perfect excuse. Some more pincushion cups are going to be created in the future, I guess.

Yes, I love colors

The bedroom post I promised, here it comes.
Some details, while it's still clean around here.

Curtains new to this room, but otherwise pretty old.
I have no idea where they originally came from,
as they are my boyfriend's.

The window sill with the mushroom lamp
(also my bf's, I love it so much),
a radio that doesn't work but looks good,
my moustache mirror, an artwork I got for birthday present
and an alarm clock I've had since a little girl.

I love rag rugs...

...And our bed from the 70's or so.
Bought used and cost only 20€.

My dresser usually has piles of stuff on the top of it.
For the time being it's actually possible to see my mathryoskas,
and I like it, I have to admit.

...

Me? Yeah, still here. Just been a bit busy. Three days off and I have turned super productive.
I've knitted, crocheted, rearranged, organized, did lots of laundry, babysitted, crafted, photographed, gone for walks, drilled and cleaned. Mostly cleaned. I hate hate hate cleaning, so now when It's done I feel like I'd beaten a dragon. I usually live according to the Douglas Coupland -quote "Don't upset the dust, it's happy the way it is", so there was lot to do. And yes, it was worth it, I know. It just was so painful while doing it. To make myself remember how nice this apartment can look I may share some photos of details tomorrow. I even washed and changed the bedroom curtains, that's totally worth a blog post.

See you soon!

Home

I cried with my mother
(and it made me feel better).

I sat in the dark
(Earth Hour).

I slept in my sister's bed
(she wasn't visiting this weekend).

And I wore my little brother's woolen socks for the whole weekend
(that 14-year-old has bigger feet than I do).

It was a good visit.

New Details

We had a handy guest yesterday. He changed two light bulbs, put my birthday clock on the wall, changed the lamp shade in the bedroom and made my globe lamp work again. This may be what fathers are made for, and he was ready to help me even though he's not my father. So thanks. It's so much brighter here right now and it makes me cheerful.

Things I irrationally dislike, part 1

Tins and jars that have texts telling what's inside them.
Like sugar or cookies painted/printed to the tin itself. I have no problem with handwritten labels, feel free to use them if you like. But if the designer of the pot thinks s/he can tell me what to store in that particular one, it just makes me mad. Therefore I never follow those "instructions", vice versa. We have biscuits in a jar saying sugar, semolina in a tin meant to coffee and rice in an old liquorice box. So if you visit my home and find white stuff in a pot named salt, the only thing you can be sure about is that it doesn't have anything to do with seasoning.

Details

All these pics are taken in our kitchen.
As a interior decorator I concentrate on
colors and quirky details, they make me happy.
I want my home to be cozy, colorful, unusual and a little weird.
(Just like myself.)
I decorate and craft only when I feel like it,
ant most of my designs are developed spontaneously,
without any exact plans.
