Simple is good

I made this post as a part of Elsie's blog project. The point of the project is to choose four personal goals to achieve before 2011. Goals are supposed to be simple and activity oriented ones that would make you life happier and richer on daily basis. Read more about it here.

So, after thinking about it for some time I've decided that these will be my simple goals:

1. Photographing more on film
Most of my film cameras are lomography cameras that I lusted over for ages but haven't used that much when I finally got them. So it's high time to get back to film and plastic cameras. Those pictures are so pretty and always make me happy! I also have an old camera with a half-taken roll of 120 mm film inside, time to finish it too.

2. Taking more walks
For the sake of getting fresh air and exercising a bit. Probably on a "walking instead of using a buss for short distances" - basis.

3. Journaling and doodling more
Art journaling makes me happy every time I do it, but it's still easy to push it "for tomorrow" that actually never comes. I also like doodling, especially all kinds of doodle projects, but seldom do it just because I suck at drawing. Time to reject the excuses and get some artsy doodling/journaling done.

4. Doing nice things to other people, both strangers, friends and frengers.
There's always room for nice actions in this world, and I love to make people around me happy. I already have some plans including i.e. surprise mail for friends and giving compliments to strangers.

Part of the project is to blog about achieving your goals, so you're gonna hear more about this some time. Before 2011, for sure.

Afraid of the happy ending?

Last December I had a long conversation about God in a café. A total stranger told me how he had found God and religion. I've written of that talk before, so I won't repeat my words. It's just that today I remembered how I asked him that what if you're afraid to find God. "Oh, I was terrified", he answered.

Cause today I'm the one who's terrified. This time God isn't involved though, not that I know. But recently, for the first time in my life, I've truly realized what I wanna do. With my life, you know. What I wanna be when I grow up. What I would like to do as my profession, but at least as a very serious hobby, if being a professional isn't possible.

Why am I terrified then, you might ask. Well, now when I know, I have to do everything I can to reach my dream. Cause otherwise, if I won't try my best, I can't be happy with myself. And this is a problem cause I'm afraid of failure. I'm afraid I don't have what it takes. I'm afraid it's going to be too hard. I'm afraid hard work is going to kill my passion. I'm afraid that ten years from now, when I've given all I could, I one day just realize I was wrong. That this really wasn't what I wanted, I just imagined so.

I also am afraid cause I know I can't let my fears stop me. I can try now, and be disappointed if it doesn't work after all. Or, I can never try and be disappointed cause I will ever know if that really would have been my path. I'm that kind of person who picks the option one, but it doesn't mean I wouldn't be terrified to leave my comfort zone.

A Dinner Party Without a Dinner?

Last night when I was trying to fall asleep, they had fun downstairs. I heard loud conversation and laughing, many people together. It sounded so cheerful and fun. And made me want to throw a dinner party. You know, a proper one with two courses and a dessert, my friends together for a long while having fun. There's only one problem: our kitchen table is so small there is space for only four people sitting close to each other. When my family visits (I have kinda big one), we sit in the living room around the coffee table. Because the table is kinda flat one, we have to sit on wooden boxes borrowed from the cellar instead of chairs. It isn't the most comfortable way, I have to tell you.

But what about a proper dinner party- picnic on our living room rug? At least 8 people could sit comfortably on the floor. Okay, when this problem is solved, there's only one more thing to consider: who cooks the dinner? Cause, you know, I so hate cooking.

Stockholm Syndrome

I'm planning an escape. Well, just a temporary one, I'll be back on Monday morning and get back to normal life with all the homework waiting for me. But tonight I'm going to take my boyfriend with me and step on board. We're going to Stockholm, and even though it's just a short cruise to a city we've been before plenty of times, it means lot to me. For some hours I don't have to think of schoolwork or our messy home or the dishes that wait for washing. For some hours we can just be and relax and do what we please. In a city I really like.

Here are some guidelines I'm planning to follow:
- Don't take anything extra with you
- Try not to do too many plans
- Don't expect anything special
- Go where you please
- Remember to have enough tea breaks
- Only buy things that really are to die for and impossible to get back home
- And for God's sake don't follow these lines if you don't feel like it!

When I grow up I wanna be...

...at least one of these. The more the better.

{via}

A knitting terrorist
(as my colleague put it)

{via}

One of those persons creating names to nail polishes
(what a lovely way to use your creativity)

{via}

A graffiti artist
(what a shame that I can't draw at all.
I just have to keep writing slogans, I guess)

A cat lady
(you know, one of those old ladies with at least seven cats)

{via}

A lollipop tester
(There has to be a job like that, right?)

{via}

A Mother
(And I don't believe in that "my kids are just like little angels"-crap
all the other parents seem to repeat to themselves.
I'm sure mine would be like little demons.
Hey, with my genes...)
